London Sperm Bank

Sperm donation step-by-step

Step 1

Complete the online application form and we’ll be in touch to arrange an appointment.

Step 2 »

Step 2

At your first appointment we ask you to fill out a questionnaire about your personal and family medical history, and to produce a semen sample.

We’ll analyse the semen sample immediately and let you know later that day if you’re eligible for continuation in the programme.

Step 3 »

Step 3

During your second appointment, we take blood and urine samples in order to test for transmittable infections.

We’ll contact you with the results one week later to inform you whether or not we can accept you as a sperm donor.

Step 4 »

Step 4

If accepted as sperm donor, your third visit to the LSB will include a meeting with a doctor and a counsellor prior to starting your donations.

We reimburse you for travel expenses for each visit to the clinic once you are accepted as a donor.

Step 5 »

Step 5

As a sperm donor, you can visit the LSB to make donations any time during working hours
(8.30 a.m. - 3.30 p.m. Monday - Friday). There is no need to make an appointment.

It is helpful if you have three days of abstinence prior to each donation.

We request that each donor provide about 20 - 25 viable samples. It is possible that not every sample will be suitable for freezing in liquid nitrogen, so you may need to produce more than 25 samples. All of your samples are held in quarantine for at least six months.

Step 6 »

Step 6

Your final appointment at the LSB takes place six months after your last donation and includes a blood and urine test. If all is clear, your sperm are approved for use.

You are compensated for loss of earnings once your sperm are cleared for use.
