Your first appointment at the LSB
During your first appointment you’ll meet members of the donor bank team and can ask any questions that you may have.
We require you to bring your passport as identification. If you do not have a passport, please bring a photo driving licence.
You will be asked to complete a questionnaire about your personal and family medical history.
Producing a sperm sample
You will be asked to produce a sperm sample.
We aim to make you feel as comfortable as possible, and the atmosphere at the LSB is welcoming and warm. You can help yourself to drinks and snacks in our reception room and, when you are ready, we’ll show you to a private room to produce your sample.
Please abstain for three days before coming to see us, as you are then likely to produce the best possible sample.
We immediately analyse your sample, checking for sperm count, motility and normal shape and form. We follow the World Health Organization guidelines to determine if a sample is suitable.
You are free to go after producing your sample and we’ll telephone or email later the same day to let you know the results of your semen analysis.
If the sample is suitable, we’ll invite you back to the LSB for a blood and urine test to screen for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
