Statement on cyber security incident
You may have heard that our partner clinic, London Women’s Clinic (LWC) has been the victim of a criminal cyber security attack.
We have been assured by London Women’s Clinic that the incident was quickly contained; the technical teams took immediate action to shut the incident down, secure the IT systems and begin a thorough investigation with the support of leading cyber-security experts. All relevant authorities were immediately informed, including the Metropolitan Police, Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) and Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
London Sperm Bank continues to operate as usual.
With our close links to LWC, we understand how concerning this may be for our donors and recipients. To date, the investigations indicate that our Electronic Medical Records system has not been accessed. However, we receive regular updates from London Women’s Clinic as they continue to assess any wider impact, and will act accordingly as we receive new information.
We deeply value the trust you place in us. Please know that protecting your privacy and information is, and will always be, of the highest priority at London Sperm Bank and London Women’s Clinic.
