Comprehensive health insights

All donors receive a full health screen: genetic testing, infectious disease checks and a review of your reproductive health – completely free of charge. Many donors tell us it was one of the most useful health checks they’ve ever had.

Professional, confidential process

From your first application to your final donation, everything is handled with complete discretion by a trained, specialist team. You are in good hands at every stage.

What becoming a donor actually looks like

Phase 1 – Screening & approval (4-6 weeks)

  • Semen analysis: we check sperm count, motility and morphology, and perform a test freeze
  • Medical and family history questionnaire
  • Confidential counselling information session with a trained counsellor
  • Genetic and STI screening (blood and urine tests)
  • Doctor’s physical examination
  • Consent completion you decide how your samples are used

Phase 2 – Donation, screening & quarantine (3-9 months)

  • Regular donation appointments at our Brighton clinic, at times that suit you
  • Ongoing health monitoring throughout
  • Samples held in quarantine as standard

Phase 3 – File review & clearance (4 weeks)

  • Final review of all screening results
  • Your samples are cleared and made available to patients

Are you eligible?

To donate at London Sperm Bank Brighton, you’ll need to:

  • Be aged 18-45
  • Be able to attend our Brighton clinic regularly for the duration of the programme
  • Have the legal right to reside in the UK
  • Be in good general health

Answering yes or no to some of our screening questions won’t necessarily disqualify you we ask that you’re honest, and we’ll assess your full picture.

Our Brighton clinic at 169 Preston Road is easily accessible by public transport. London Road (Brighton) and Preston Park railway stations are both within easy reach, with regular train services connecting Brighton to London, Gatwick Airport and destinations across Sussex and beyond. With several bus routes stopping close to the clinic on Preston Road, including 5, 5A, 17, 270, 271, 272 and 273, getting to the clinic is easy, whether you’re travelling from across Brighton or the surrounding area.

Do I need to travel to London?

Yes, most screening appointments can take place in Brighton or online. During the programme, you may need to attend our London Bridge clinic for some appointments and donations. 
How often would I need to come in?

Donation frequency varies by individual, but most donors visit roughly once or twice a week during their donation period. This usually lasts around 3 to 6 months depending on your sample quality and storage targets.
Is it confidential?

Yes. Your identity is protected throughout. Donor-conceived children may access non-identifying information about you at 16, and identifying information at 18 – this is a legal requirement under HFEA regulation, not something specific to LSB. Your implications counselling session will cover this in full.
Will this affect my fertility?

No. Sperm donation has no impact on your own fertility or long-term health.
How much does it cost me?

Nothing. All screening, testing and clinic visits are free of charge. You receive £45 per visit as compensation for your time.
